It’s Earth Day 2024 as well as Haibun Monday, and Frank J Tassone asks us to join him at the dVerse Poets Pub and create/share a Haibun (prose/haiku combo) incorporating some reference to remind ourselves of that fact.

Shame On The Mirror
I’m not sure I can care anymore about people who don’t try to alter the fate of our shared planet. I used to pray for them; pray they’d see the light; see they’ve screwed things up. But I know it’s not fair to just blame others, especially since I’ve become one of them.
tomorrow’s another day
we should have done more

~ Earth Day ~
———[||]———
Sometimes it seems the futility of it all is that we are only one of a few nations that want to see it through.
I’m afraid we’re all guilty of abusing our earth but maybe we can all do something to help improve things!
Ron, so so true. I reposted a post of mine from Earth Day 2010. 14 years later, and I am not certain much has changed. It is sad my friend .
I agree, Ron. I’m so fed up with trying to convince people to do their bit, even if only in a small way. As long as I know that my recycling bin is fuller than my general waste bin, I’m doing something. Your haiku sums up the situation well.
Indeed… I try, but I know that I should probably give up some comfort for a greater good.
Your haibun reminds me of that saying about pointing the finger: there are three other fingers pointing back at me.
Your haiku portrays the heartbreaking reality we all face if we don’t preserve our home.
This.
It all feels hopeless. I suffer from bad eco news fatigue. Your haibun is so en pointe. 💚
