Unrequited

She has them:
the brownest eyes he’s
ever seen.
Beautiful.
He thinks he might be in love.
(Then she winks at him).

He winks back
or he thinks he’s winked,
but hasn’t.
He just can’t.
(He’s stuck in wide-eyed wonder
drooling on his shoes.)
