Afterward

It’s Quadrille Monday again at the dVerse Poets Pub; time to create a 44-word poem using the word (or encompassing the concept of) EMBRACE.
Thanks to Merril for hosting and getting us started.

Afterward

There might still be enough daylight
through the window’s crystals
to illuminate the canary walls;
the sun might still shine
as it had always shone;
but now, neither the room’s empty air
nor the things upon which it shone
would benefit from its embrace.

  1. This is brilliantly executed, Ron. The quadrille leaves much to be ruminated. I love; “the canary walls.” 🙂

  2. There is a chill right in the middle of this piece. The scenario I saw was an apartment with no electricity, no heat, and three hungry kids, and a sick old dog. A touch of William Faulkner too.
