Every one of us is
one of one, or one of two;
one of eight or nine billion
–which means we’ve got
sixteen or eighteen billion eyes.

Most of us are blind, though.
Anyone can see it.

But most of us just look away,
never (or rarely) look inward.

Imagine.
Eighteen billion eyes, opened:

Eighteen billion hands
we could be offering, reaching out,
holding someone else’s hand.
Helping.

But no.

Why can’t we just take a minute,
think things over, change our minds
and make another choice?
