It’s Quadrille Monday again at the dVerse Poets Pub; time to create a 44-word poem.
This week, we’re asked to create a poem using the word “Sleep” or some word that incorporates it. Tonight, I’ve opted for a Sevenling.
Thanks to Sarah for hosting and getting us started.

Sevenling (he sleeps less) *
He sleeps less and less these days;
only waits and waits, tosses and turns,
wide awake and counting sheep until morning.
When daylight arrives, the morning sun
—like him— rises but refuses to shine.
He stays unlit.
It’s not just his clock that’s stopped.

Quadrille Monday
~ Sleepy Times ~

Oof. What an ending!
Feel like I can relate, as I’m not “lit” until some sort of caffeine is IV’d in.
Miserable.
Yours is quadrilific, too!
Being a dedicated insom-aniac, I can relate to this bit’o’wit Ron. I just had my fuse re-lit, so awakening should be less of a task these days. Dig the sevenling thing bro. Thanks for cluing me my friend.
He stays unlit–oh I know that feeling only too well. (K)
Oh dear!
Great sevenling.
Great sevenling!
‘Stays unlit’ – what a way to end a bad night! Great Sevenling.
“He stays unlit.”
What a brilliant line. This is excellent.
Very sad to get to that point in life!
Love this, Ron. It did not go where I expected.
Sometimes it can be hard to find that ‘get-up-and-go’ feeling!
Most excellent indeed, Ron.
Alas… it’s getting harder to light up… it seems like both night and day is a constant flicker.
