Some Things, Sometimes

Some things never stop.
Some things, stopped,
never get restarted. I’m
like some of those things.

Sometimes, started, I can’t stop.
Sometimes people yell at me,
“Shut the hell up, willya?”
They don’t know me.

Sometimes I just sit there,
silent, pretending to think.
Pretending. People think I’m
thinking. I don’t think I am.

Some things just repeat
over and over and over,
continue repeating forever.
Some poems never end.

  1. Short poems are hard for me. Usually, unless prompted otherwise, once I get started, I can’t stop until the poem runs out of gas, and stops itself.

  2. Short, deft and to the point, Ron. Have you posted the poem you read last night yet? Or could I have some details of the anthology as I am interested…

    • Ingrid: I didn’t post the poem I read because it’s the one that will be in the anthology & I was unclear how that jives with 1st rights / copyright privileges I’ve already signed off on & my assurance to published that the piece was unpublished anywhere, including personal blogs. etc.

The anthology (from Jambu Press) comes out early next month (just in time for his 102nd B’day). Submissions closed a while back. You can read about it here:

I just received galley selections this morning (my poem/bio/notes page, etc.) this morning, and it appears that it’s going to be a phenomenal volume — tons of good works, created by authors for whom LF was / is a major influence.

Thanks for your interest; I’ll keep you posted!

  3. This is incredibly evocative, Ron! I wish people would stick around and really get to know us .. even if it’s just a little bit 🙂
