It’s Quadrille Monday again at the dVerse Poets Pub; time to create a 44-word poem using the word (or encompassing the concept of) “dab”.
Thanks to De Jackson for hosting and getting us started.

Transfixation
I watch the nightly news
all day long, mesmerized,
watch the body count soar,
watch the politicians, the
lunacy unleashed.
…………………………………..I can’t
change the channel; sitcoms
have ceased to exist.
…………………………………….I’d rather
be dabbing tears of laughter
but I guess those days are gone.

At least it will be the legacy left by a failing president… it’s what he will be remembered by.
Sadly I am afraid you are right! What ever happened to good wholesome TV.
😢 it seems we’re all dabbing at the sadder kind of tears at the moment…
I have found it best for my sanity and joy factor to turn the whole thing off. Your piece is well spilled, but does make me sad.
Poignant use of ‘dab’ here, Ron! Unfortunately the news does make one feel uneasy at times.
It’s been a very long four years, topped off by absolute horror. I hope you get some dabs of laughter.
Sometimes it seems there’s no humor to be found. It was a dark week.
SAD! (as he would say)

I miss ‘the way things were’ too. Doesn’t even seem possible how our lives have changed.
You nailed it. It’s lunacy. Clever separation of the last two lines to accentuate the nostalgia.
Good wholesome TV sit coms are mostly streaming during the day, Hulu, CBS Access, Hero, etc. But in fact daytime TV has most always been soap opera and game shows. I enjoyed your pointed jab at those things that plague us.
Yeah, I went here too.
Nice one Ron
Happy Monday

😦 😦
Such truth spoken in this piece. Well written.
turn that tellie off …
Dabbing a tear away, I have limited my viewing of news to once a day. It’s just too much for me at the moment. We need humor more than ever.
Go to streaming as someone else said. More sitcoms both old gold and new than you can shake a stick at.
Even though I have access to loads of channels, it seems I watch the news more often than not lately. Transfixation aptly describes it. 💔
I read ‘I watch the mighty news’
There’s something biblical in that. I hope something biblical comes for the Trump clique.
I can’t watch the news anymore – I end up dabbing away the tears.
We no longer have regular TV and watch movies, etc. by streaming. Can’t watch the news anymore!
Oh boy have you captured me and half the nation on January 6th. Glued to the tv in horror and anger. These last few days I’ve tried to read and find happy funny things on Netflix or BritBox which is on Prime. I crave good news and calm. The news…I’ve heard the phrase doomzoom or something like that. Doom and gloom but add anger and horror to it…January 6th had it all.
