So Little Lasts

Revised for this week’s Quadrille Challenge (44-word poetry) at dVerse Poets Pub

Snapshot

The sun still gilded the garden wall
late in the afternoon, where women stood in shawls
and wide-brimmed summer hats; and violets, straying
along the footpath where they stood, swayed.

But only for an imaginary instant;
then it was winter again, cold and immobile.

  1. Wow, such brilliant and dark imagery here, Ron. I love this so much, especially with the change in the seasons. It feels so quick! What a great take on the prompt; this is quite a beautiful poem.

  2. Lovely! We are experiencing a harsh and hot summer at the moment.. so I am waiting desperately for winter to come 🙂

  3. I like the sharp turn this quadrille took from the vivid summer scene to the chill of winter. I can relate. Enjoying every moment of this weather.
