This week’s Writer’s Pantry Prompt at Poets And Storytellers United tells us that “April prepares us for what’s to come.” I guess that’s also what parents try to do, but can’t, because the Universe is constantly inconstant.
I’m not a parent, but I’m offering up this untitled oldie.

If I were the father of children
I would tell them that the sky is blue denim
and they would worship the moon;
if I were the father of children,
people, meeting them on the street,
would smile and wonder, would pause and smile.
My children would have the certain knowledge
that Summer’s color is caught in Autumn’s air.

Beautiful. Smile and wonder/pause and smile. I like how this captures both the passersby as well as the children.
I like the way your imagination works!
This is wonderful!!!
Brilliant! Yup. No other word for it but “brilliant”!
Loved that last line.
Oh how I love this Ron!! You would have been a wonderful father Indeed!!
I love this…What a wonderful way to parent
This is a special piece of writing. That explains Autumn’s beauty to me perfectly. Thank you.
Nice fathering! Your mythical children must have very happy lives. And oh, what a beautiful ending to the poem.
This stands out to me: “Summer’s color is caught in Autumn’s air” that is striking and interesting thought.
If we all take care we too will be able to breathe in Autumn’s air.
A huge sigh of contentment from me … lovely.
I’m smiling just thinking about these children, and the life they would’ve had. Love the beyond stunning language.
