Time Machine

(The Japanese phrase mono no aware (moh noh noh ah wah ray) refers to a wistful sadness at the passing of things. This includes leaves falling, the first frost, the ending of a relationship, the ending of an era, or death. )

I remember how magical smoke
curling up from a midnight ashtray
mingled with incense and music
spilled out through open curtains
from one mystic space to the next
all night long all along the boulevard
all that long long summer long.

Revised and posted here for RDP’s Tuesday Prompt: NOSTALGIA
