Today, the Real Toads invite us to: pick something–anything–and to write its “what”. As in, “what is the—?”
I didn’t–couldn’t possibly–wax nearly as poetic as the selection from Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass that they provided as inspiration; the best I could come up with was this:
Keyboard
86 keys in total
most of them the same size
practical letters & numbers
the next largest group
function and arrow keys
smaller but apparently mighty
two stand separate: escape
in the upper left-hand corner
and the giant, well-thumbed space

You have written the “what of it all,” 86 keys.
I somehow love the s p a c e the most
I too love the s p a c e. Chinmoku – Japanese for silence meaning specifically, the silence between the notes. You have captured this perfectly.
Well-thumbed space is such a great way of describing it and something we all need–as well as the escape! Very clever and fun, thanks! k.
Nicely done, sir.
We all need space.
Between escape and space, lie all the possible words…….cool.
original take on this… we should all write about our love/hate relationship with our keyboard 🙂
