Six New Inches

Every this I see is white and the mountain is morning.
Under halo, I look past cold.
Even when I’m there and dark I know the light is.
Nothing either moves or enfolds me now, and I am rapt in its blessing.
The snow comes first and early.
On the ground, I try to follow it on paper.
